Bees are very essential insects because worldwide, they provide pollination service which is very important to agriculture and biodiversity conservation. Aside pollination, bees also provide hive products which are nutritious and medicinal such as honey, royal jelly, beebread, propolis, wax and many more. Most people however perceive all bees to be stinging and dangerous. This is entirely not the case because there are some bees which are harmless and very friendly to the extent that they could be kept on porches, study rooms, etc. These bees are known as Stingless Bees.

Stingless bees also known as Meliponines are a group of bees with non-functional stings. They are tropical bees of African origin which have dispersed to other tropical and sub-tropical parts of the world. There are about 500 species of stingless bees, and they are the only highly social bees aside the common honeybees (Apis mellifera L.). Stingless bees usually live in permanent colonies that consist of the queen and the drone as the reproductives and hundreds or thousands of workers (depending on the species).

The colonies are found in all forms of nest with the most common being in tree cavities. A few species however build underground nests and some also build exposed nests surrounded by hard and brittle layers, hanging over tree branches in the air. The bees use all forms of materials including resin, sand particles, excrement, etc in building their nests, which are waterproof and highly resistant to predators.

Even though stingless bees have non-functional stings, they have various and efficient means of defence within and without their nests. Some species adopt aggressive ways of external defence like biting, releasing caustic mandibular secretions, unpleasant oduors and irritating by crawling into eyes and ears of intruders. The most external tactic of defence of the bees is making their nests invisible. Internally stingless bees use a substance known as propolis to embalm intruders.

Stingless bees and pollination

The transfer of pollen grains to the stigma of flowers thus pollination is very crucial for plant reproduction and therefore, seed and fruit production. Plants depend on agents called pollinators to effect pollination. Bees constitute the principal pollinators, ensuring the survival of many plant species including plants that provide food security to innumerable rural households.

          ]]>

Most species of stingless bees exhibit some characteristics that enhance their potential as pollinators. The bees are polylectic or generalist flower visitors, visiting and adapting to a broad range of plant species. They also demonstrate floral constancy whereby the workers visit only one plant species on a single trip. Floral constancy is linked with pollinator efficiency because the collection and deposition of a mixture of pollen from two or more plant species tends to contaminate the stigma with the wrong pollen.

Meliponiculture (stingless beekeeping)

Transferring stingless bee colonies into artificial nests boosts the potential of the bees for crop pollination because the hives could be transported where and when needed for pollination. Stingless bees were kept by man centuries ago but unlike Central and South America and parts of Asia, the practice did not evolve in Africa. Currently in Africa, meliponiculture exists only in Tanzania and Angola on small to medium scale. Stingless bee honey in Africa is mostly harvested destructively from feral colonies.

Stingless bee keeping has some advantages over honeybee keeping. For instance the colony could last permanently as long as no damaging disaster occurs, by replacing the old queen with a virgin queen. Also stingless bee queens and workers generally tend to live longer that of the honeybees. Aside the longevity of their colonies and castes, stingless bees have not yet been found to be affected by the disease and the Varroa mite problems that are plaguing the honeybee keeping industry. In addition stingless bees do not sting making them the golden and friendliest bees of the world. The stingless attribute also makes them harmless to man and therefore easy to handle and manage. This means that stingless bees could be kept as close as possible to our homes, on the porches, backyard gardens, and study rooms etc as pets. Thus stingless bees are the only pets that provide additional benefits of pollination, honey and other hive products to enjoy.

Stingless bee hive products

The hive products of Stingless just as that of the common honeybees include honey, propolis, pollen (beebread) and wax. The hive products, some of which have antioxidant, antimicrobial and antifungal properties have been used in the food and cosmetic industries as well as in medicine. Stingless bee honey has a higher medicinal value than that of A. mellifera. It is either taken in its pure form or as a component in both in traditional (including herbal extracts especially in Africa) or conventional medicines.

Threats to stingless bees

In recent times bee population densities are declining below points of sustaining pollination services in both agro and natural ecosystems. This decline is as a result of habitat loss, land management practices, agricultural and industrial chemicals among others. Most feral bees and for that matter stingless bees require safe and undisturbed habitats for nesting and foraging. The elimination of these resources by lumber exploitation, clearing of natural vegetation, wild bushfires, land degradation, literally starve and kill the bees.

Most pesticides and other chemicals used in agriculture also kill bees directly, decreasing their populations significantly. Stingless bees are particularly affected by these threats especially in Africa where meliponiculture is virtually non-existent. This is further exacerbated by the destructive harvesting of the stingless bee honey from the wild colonies.

There is the need for more research and education on stingless bees, their importance and the need for meliponiculture as means of conserving this very important resource; the stingless bees.

Afia Serwaa karikari is an Entomologist with expertise in stingless bees and meliponiculture. She is also a Research Scientist with the CSIR-SARI (Ghana)where she is into insect pest management.
Article Source

Good advice, says Fred Willey, A professional Phoenix Exterminator after he read and viewed the following stories about bee attacks around the Phoenix area.

Five emergency calls in five hours were enough to prompt fire officials here to put out word that bee season has arrived, and that it could be a busy one after a wet winter.

Bees swarm in the spring as groups break away from overcrowded colonies, often setting up hives in places that bring them in contact with people. That’s no small issue with aggressive Africanized honeybees established around Arizona.

This story and the following two stories are typical Calls that our Media has been reporting all year long here in Phoenix, said Fred, and Due to last year’s winter rains there have been a lot of flowers blooming this year from desert areas such as Cave Creek, to downtown Tempe and Mesa, and it’s been a busy season so far, Fred said. When it rains a lot, there’s more pollen and nectar on the plants and that gives the bees a lot of food, which increases the number of swarms. Unfortunately because of the bees had such a successful spring, it can be expected that this fall will be even worse as they prepare for winter time and swarm season is upon us again from here on until we reach the colder winter months.

It is so important that people do exactly what the Phoenix Fire department is saying, BEE Careful, just read these stories, and you will understand why messing with bees is “Not a Do It Yourself Project” you should be attempting.

PHOENIX – An elderly man is in critical condition after being attacked by a swarm of bees Wednesday as he tried to use a vacuum to suck them up.

At about 6 p.m., the Phoenix Fire Department’s Emergency Medical Services said they responded to the scene of the attack near 32nd Street and Indian School Road.

Captain Dorian Jackson of the Phoenix Fire Department said the 85-year-old man tried to vacuum the entire hive in a tree outside his home.

Jackson said the victim suffered between 50 and 75 stings on his face alone.

When firefighters and medical personnel arrived at the scene, they tried to walk with the victim to get him away from the bees, but the bees continued to attack for two-city blocks, according to Dorian.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Dorian said it’s extremely important that when people come into contact with a hive on their property, they should contact a professional Phoenix Exterminator and not attempt to get rid of the hive themselves.

Firefighters used foam to extinguish the bees.

The attack was the second time Phoenix firefighters responded to a serious bee attack Wednesday. An 81-year-old woman is also in critical condition after she was attacked by bees near 33rd Avenue and Cactus Road.

          ]]>

In Phoenix — Neighbors say 81-year-old Toni Parker, who was attacked by a swarm of angry bees Wednesday, is doing better and hopes to return home soon.

“She’s doing fine, she’s up and alert,” said Debbie Cameron, who called 911. “She’s got a broken leg close to the hip, and she wants to come home already.”

Cameron says she had just returned home when she got a phone message from Parker.

“She must have left her phone on, because all I could hear was this rustling and I knew something was wrong.”

Soon after, Cameron’s mother came in telling her that Parker was being attacked by bees.

Cameron’s mother, MaryLou Cameron, had rushed over but had been stung nearly 12 times trying to get close enough to help her friend.

“As I got closer, she had the blanket pulled back to see who was coming out and all she kept doing was calling ‘help! help!’ … she uncovered her face and there were bees all over her face,” said Cameron.

Three police officers and another person were also stung in the attack.

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Dorian Jackson said Parker was trapped on her back patio at 1 p.m. by the swarm of about 1,000 bees.

The home is near 33rd Avenue and Cactus Road.

In a call to 911, a Cameron told the dispatcher that “[Parker's] fallen and bees are attacking her in a swarm.”

“She couldn’t get away,” Cameron told ABC15. “She must’ve slipped and fell … she broke her leg up near her hip.”

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Dorian Jackson said Parker was stung 300 times.

Three Phoenix police officers tried to help the woman by spraying the bees with fire extinguishers, but Jackson said that appeared to aggravate the bees further.

He said the officers were stung approximately 50 times each.

They were evaluated by paramedics at the scene and refused treatment, according to Jackson. He said one other person was also stung.

Firefighters closed off the street as they tried to locate the hive. Crews used foam to subdue the bees.

As you can read in these media stories, Africanized honeybees are dangerous to humans and pets because they respond aggressively and in large numbers to perceived threats, a trait that makes them far more dangerous than European honeybees.

The so-called killer bees arrived in southern Arizona in 1993 and since have been found in every county. They are descendants of a variety brought to Brazil from Africa in the 1950s by scientists looking for a better honey producer. The bees bred with the local honeybees and began spreading northward.

Africanized bee attacks can be fatal to people, especially the elderly and those who are allergic to bee stings. Dogs are vulnerable because they often are chained or enclosed by fences and can’t get away.

The bees don’t go out looking for trouble with people, but confrontations often occur when someone inadvertently disturbs a hive or decides to destroy the bees without professional help.

Those who are attacked should run away from the bees or get inside buildings, closing doors behind them. Diving into a pool doesn’t help; the bees will wait for a person to surface, and I always tell people “ They have more air than you do, and you can only hold your breath for so long and they will still be there waiting to sting you.”

The best protection is taking steps to avoid provoking bees, such as staying on hiking trails and not trying to take a closer look at a bee hive. Usually curiosity is the biggest cause of bee attack situations. Don’t wear floral scented perfumes when hiking, and if you are attacked by bees – don’t panic, cover your face, protect your nose and mouth (bees are attracted to your breath and will usually try an sting you around those areas if possible which will cause your airways to swell shut and limit your ability to continue breathing) and run to a protected area such as inside your home, inside a car. It’s better to be in the car with a few bees than out of the car with 50000 bees, just be careful to not put others in danger as well, as the bees will go after everyone around you.

Most importantly of all “Don’t wait to take care of a bee hive” Hire a professional to do this work, as you have read, two individuals were put into almost life threatening situations, and our professional Phoenix firemen came to the rescue at potentially the same risk to themselves. It is alarming to me, with the amount of risk that bees can be, how many times I have heard, “oh, yea they have been there for quite a while”. The quicker we respond to a Hive the better, bees get more aggressive when they have a hive to protect, and the larger the hive the more bees there are, of course, however one thing we haven’t mentioned yet, is the honey! With large hives, there is a lot of honey and potentially more damage to the structure to remove this hive, as well as the fact that any left over honey will attract other pests such as ants, cockroaches, more bees and even beetles. Oh and did I mention that if you leave the honey, there is a good chance it will melt, and flood your house with ooehy, gooey, honey, or did I tell you about the time when the honey got rotten and the whole house smelled like rotten “Honey”. You get the picture.
Bees can pose a fatal threat just with their stings, Hire the premium bee nest removal phoenix service for affordable prices. They are experts in removing almost all kind of killer bees of Arizona.

There are several wasp nest removal tips that can be used for getting rid of the wasp problems. They are especially troublesome when they start building huge nests near doorways, under balconies and in the sidings of the doors and other overhanging’s and awnings. They also build their nests that hang from the overhang of the trees. Depending on where the nest is located, several techniques can be used. However, it’s necessary that at all times, children and pets should be kept at a safe distance toe ensure that they don’t get stung by the wasps.

Using smoke

One of the wasp nest removal tips is the use of smoke. Light a small fire with old newspapers and old rag cloths and fan it out to release a lot of smoke. This should be done directly under the nest of the wasp. The smoke makes the wasps extremely drowsyand incapacitated. This makes it easier for a person to remove the nest as the wasps won’t offer any retaliation. Else the wasps can become agitated very fast and can cause immense damage on the people removing the nest. Ensure that water is kept handy and can be used for dousing the flames, the moment the wasp nest has been removed.

          ]]>

Night time removal

Timing is another of the wasp nest removal tips that should be taken seriously. Wasps are extremely hard workers during the day and the nest is buzzing with activity. They are extremely drowsy in the evening and won’t be as active in the night as they are in the morning. Night is the best time to remove the nest of the wasps as they offer little or no resistance.

Poisonous sprays

Using poison sprays whether they are chemical or organic is also one of the great ways in which the wasps and their nest can be removed. The entire nest should be drenched in the spray and this will ensure that the wasps are dead. Then the nest can be easily removed with the help of a broom or an elongated pole. Even wasps that are trying to space will find it extremely difficult to do so.

Using a drawstring bag or a box with a tight lid

Use a box or a drawstring sack made of burlap to enclose and trap the wasp nest along with the wasps. Simply tighten the drawstring and then immerse this bag or box inside water for a good 10 – 15 minutes. The wasps will drown and die as they are unable to sting.

Using water

Another of the wasp nest removal tips is to hose down the nest with water before the application of poisonous wasp sprays. Water makes the nest heavy and it can also break down and fall. Ensure that the nozzle can spray the water at high pressure. But ensure that there is an n escape route, so that when the wasps try to escape their nest, then you can also seek shelter from them quickly. It’s always important to wear protective clothing and gear when removing the wasp nest

Wasp and hornet season heats up with the temperature; the aggressive insects get more active as the summer goes on. Unfortunately, this is also when kids spend the most time outdoors. You can take a few simple steps to protect your kids from the wasps and hornets that are part of the summer season.

If you have a picnic or a cookout, keep all food and drink containers covered until it is time to eat. Clean up immediately after the meal, and be sure all garbage bags are tied shut.

If your kids carry a drink outdoors when they play, water is the best option; wasps are highly attracted to sugar and sugary drinks. Put the beverage in a container with a lid or a snap-down straw. Encourage your kids to be mindful and to look at their drink container before they put it to their mouths. To be completely safe, have your kids come inside to drink at intervals during their play.

          ]]>

If you see wasps on your porch, yard, or other play area, and the hive isn’t visible, wasp traps are your best option. Today’s pesticide-free wasp traps are non-toxic and safe for use around pets and children. The traps are deceptively simple—and highly effective. They work by enticing the wasps into a container with sugar water or a similar formulation. Once inside, the wasps can’t escape. Place the traps away from the area where your children play to draw the wasps towards the trap and away from the play area.

Some types of wasps are attracted to bright colors, so you may want to consider neutral-colored play clothes for you children, especially if you know there have been wasps in a particular area in the past.

Encourage your kids to tell you if they see a wasp or a hornet hive so that you can remove it safely. Unfortunately, when it comes to interesting-looking wasp hives, most kids are curious. Although you probably won’t be able to stem your kids’ curiosity, do take the time to educate them. All wasps can sting, and wasp stings are notoriously painful.

If you or your child is attacked by a wasp, it’s important to know that wasps can sting multiple times. Swift movements will often attract other wasps, so in the event that a hive is disturbed, you should get away from the area as quickly and safely as possible.

Of course, if you know your child has wasp sensitivity such as an allergy to yellow jacket venom, be sure that they carry their Epi-pen or other sting treatment kit during any outdoor summer activity.

If you are wondering what the term wasp derives, it is largely an insect which comes from the order which is known as Hymenoptera and of the sub order of Apocrita which means it is neither an ant nor a bee

There are some female wasps that are born infertile, and they are normally the first wasps to be born in a colony. Their eggs are born first from the queen to help increase the population of the nest but they become sterile when there are enough wasps populating the nest.

Wasps are extremely important in the control Of other insects and parasites as they will prey on almost all of them without discrimination for who they are

Wasps tend to measure about 1.6 centimeters in length and tend to have a striped yellow and black body.

A cousin of the wasp is the yellow jacket which is often found in North America. They are very aggressive wasps who will attack you if they feel threatened which is why yellow jacket extermination methods are applied quite often.

          ]]>

In fact yellow jackets extermination are very effective when using it to combat everyday wasps

An ordinary wasp sting can be treated with ammonia, cold poultices or alcohol followed then by antihistamine ointment; however it is worth seeking medical assistance if you are stung in the mouth, neck or any other highly sensitive area. It is also worth seeking medical assistance if you experience unusual swelling, nausea, extreme pain or giddiness following a wasp sting.

Wasps are even used in agricultural peat control to keep the numbers of parasites down that attack crops with parasitic wasps are increasingly used by farmers to protect their produce from parasites

Wasps are not very active at night, as they are usually found in their nests during this time. So the best time to lay siege to a wasp nest is at night time when they are unaware of the attack. They are extremely sensitive to light so will awake as soon as the sun rises.

Did you know that there are over 100,000 species of wasp in the natural world Today?

In the wasp reproduction, the ovipositor is used to inject eggs directly into the body of a female

The wasps that are most known about are from the Aculeata, a division of Apocrita who have ovipositors which have a venomous sting at the end of them.

Although wasps are notoriously known for their sting, there are a great number of species of wasps that do not have a sting from their ovipositors

From August to October, Wasps tend to be quite aggressive during these late summer, early autumn months when the type of food they seek changes from insects to remains of food and garbage which is why they tend to sting people a lot during this time.

Like many hobbies, beekeeping requires some basic equipment before someone can establish a successful hive. This equipment should be bought before you get a call from the post office asking you to come and pick up the honey bees. You can buy honey bees and hive together locally from someone in your local association, club or group. They are also often for sale in bee journals and magazines but get advice from an experienced bee-keeper.

Beware of the reason why the honey bees are being sold. The first hive and honey bees I bought were being sold because the honey bees were very aggressive/defensive. The seller was very good; because he told me they were aggressive and he had difficulty handling them. I got advice from my local bee inspector who said he knew the honey bees and yes they were aggressive/defensive but he felt that they could be calmed with gentle handling, but not the ideal choice for a beginner. I bought the honey bees, hive and equipment at a knock-down price. My first experience of opening that hive was a disaster, the veil was weak and when I put it on a hole appeared in the rear which I was unaware of. The honey bees found it in seconds and started crawl all over the back of my neck. As calmly as I could I closed the hive and headed away from the hive they had started to sting by this time. I removed the veil and jogged to the house to get my wife’s assistance. She scraped nineteen stings out of my neck, head and face, they were very painful.

Within the week I had obtained another veil and an all-in-one white boiler type suit and went back to the honey bees. Yes they were still very aggressive, or defensive as some prefer to call it, and smothered my gloved hands and left their stingers in the leather but didn’t actually sting me. The hundreds of honey bees on my hands made handling the frames difficult as I was a novice and very nervous and I think they knew. It took me nearly eighteen months to calm them down. I always worked slowly and deliberately with no jerky movements and spoke to them about how good I thought they were. How effective speaking to them was I am not sure but it helped me and gave me confidence when I told them what I was going to do next. They were never gentle like the honey bees I have now but at least they stopped smothering me and stinging my gloves. So my advice is get advice from an experienced beekeeper or an expert.

          ]]>

The most obvious piece of equipment you will need is the actual beehive. A floor with landing board, brood chamber, queen excluder, super (s), crown board with Porter bee escape and feeding aperture and of course the roof with waterproof covering.

Your beehive should have at least one super but preferably more. The supers are a very important part of the beehive because they are where the honey bees will be storing their honey. These supers should be between the bottom of the hive i.e., the brood chamber and the hive cover or roof. The supers are very important because they are where the honey bees will be storing their honey for feeding and raising their offspring in the brood chamber below. Once you have an active hive each of these supers will contain nine to twelve frames depending on the type of hive. You can choose if you want a hive with shallow supers or deep supers. The advantage of deep supers is that they enable bee-keepers to buy only one size foundation. The disadvantage is that, when full, a deep super can weigh one hundred pounds or more.

Once you have a hive for your honey bees make sure you place it somewhere that has a flat surface preferably off the ground on a stand so that the hive won’t tip over in a strong wind and the damp won’t seep up from the ground. Also make sure that you place it somewhere that humans, livestock and pets aren’t likely to disturb it.

Some bee-keepers use spacers others judge the spacing by eye. A spacer is a piece of equipment bee-keepers use to keep an equal amount of space between the frames while they are in the super.

The next piece of equipment you will need is a smoker. The smoker is what you will use to control the honey bees and move them when you open the hive particularly in preparation for harvesting the honey. The smoker is surprisingly simple in its design. The smoker consists of a funnel, a combustion chamber, and bellows. Many bee-keepers claim that old, clean burlap or Hessian is the best material to use in the smoker because they are easy to ignite and smoulder and smoke well. Other bee-keepers prefer to use dried corn cobs, hay, straw and some use old socks not nylon of course. Once the fire has been lit in the combustion chamber the bellows will keep it going. The funnel directs the smoke into the hive, encouraging the honey bees to move away.

Another tool you will need is a metal hive tool. The metal hive tool is used to pry open the hive, and separate the hive bodies and frames, and to scrape the frames clean. Think of it as the all purpose tool of beekeeping, it can also be used to remove bee stings by scraping it across the skin. Never try and remove a sting by pulling it out with your fingers you will just squeeze the poison sac and push more venom in. By all means use the fingernail to scrape out a sting or your hive tool.

No bee-keeper is ready to receive their shipment of honey bees until they have a bee brush. A bee brush is used to gently brush honey bees out of the way so that the bee-keeper can examine the frames for brood.

When it is time to harvest your honey, you can use a fume board. A fume board is a board that is covered in bee removing chemicals and is then used to encourage the honey bees to leave a super and go down to the brood chamber and let you take their honeycombs by removing the complete super. You can also use a crown board with a one way Porter bee escape. Once they have gone through the Porter they can’t get back this can take 24 to 48 hours.

If you don’t mind getting and using used equipment you can find some great bargains on beekeeping equipment on auction sites. There are several catalogues and websites that offer beekeeping equipment, and many of them offer beginners packages. If you acquire previously owned i.e., second-hand equipment you must ensure they are cleaned and sterilised. This can be done by washing with washing soda and flaming/scorching with a blow-lamp/torch.

My name is Bob Prior-Sanderson. I am a successful bee-keeper and I publish eBooks about the long lost secrets of beekeeping by the old masters.
Difference Between Bee Pollen and Royal Jelly

Whether you’re entirely new to bee pollen or a skilled herbal and holistic therapist, you will find something of use when reading about the differences between bee pollen and royal jelly in this article.

The biggest difference, which I will touch on towards the end of the article, is that bee pollen, and specificallyNew Zealandbee pollen is a better product both nutritionally and health wise than royal jelly.

Both bee pollen and royal jelly belong to a branch of alternative therapy known as Apitherapy.

Apitherapy is the treatment and prevention of bodily ailments through the use of honey bee products. This includes bee pollen, royal jelly, beeswax, propolis, honey and bee venom.

We are going to cover two of the most popular products in this article and consider what the difference between bee pollen and royal jelly is.

What Is Royal Jelly?

Royal jelly is a secretion made from the worker bees of a honey bee colony. It is produced solely for the nutrition and development of all bee larvae up to 3 days old and for the continual development of all chosen Queen Bee larvae.

It is the constant ‘soaking’ in royal jelly that the chosen larvae do, that allows them to become Queen Bees instead of worker bees. Hence the name royal jelly!

Royal jelly offers a range of health benefits and is considered a highly potent anti-aging product.

It is that renowned as an anti-aging product, that is commonly used in many cosmetics and toiletries that offer anti-aging effects.

This bee product is also perfectly suited for the balancing of hormonal problems such as PMT, and for increasing both libido and fertility in men and women. Because of these traits royal jelly has been considered an aphrodisiac since the ancient civilizations.

          ]]>

How Does Bee Pollen Differ To Royal Jelly?

Bee pollen differs in many respects to royal jelly.

The key difference between bee pollen and royal jelly in the honey bee hive is that it is fed only to the worker bee and drone larvae over 3 days old. Thus in some aspects it is the ‘commoners’ food.

When it comes to its health benefits you will find a substantial difference to royal jelly. Bee pollen is known for its breathtaking and utterly impressive benefits to human life.

It is adept at helping with the treatment and prevention of prostate related issues in men, and many scientific research papers have agreed with this.

Bee pollen is also an excellent general prophylactic, strengthening the immune system. It allows our bodies to remain strong and provide adequate defense against common colds and flus.

The best and the biggest difference between bee pollen and royal jelly are the levels of nutrition. Bee pollen is that dense in nutrition that it contains all of the vitamins and minerals for optimal body functioning.

Due to this major abundance of vitamins, and in particular B vitamins, bee pollen is known for its energy boosting qualities. This allows you to get more done in your day, it has allowed athletes to perform better, and academics to think clearer and see problems in a whole new light.

For Bee Pollen To Be Better Than Royal Jelly, You Need The Highest Quality!

The biggest downside of Apitherapy is that its products are highly sensitive to pollution and as such need to be harvested from perfect environments for its products to be as beneficial as they can be.

There is one such place, and furthermore, one such company that can offer the highest quality bee pollens available.

The place isNew Zealand, a country famed for its low level of pollution, expansive and wondrous landscapes, wide diversity of plant life and superlative levels of air quality. Together this makes for the perfect environment to harvest bee pollen from.

The company which offers you this incredible product fromNew Zealandis Xtend Life. Only at Xtend Life will you find a product of such quality to better your life and provide you all of the remarkable benefits bee pollen has to offer.

So remember, the major difference between bee pollen and royal jelly, is that bee pollen is miraculously packed full of healthy, energy boosting, body strengthening and mind sharpening vitamins and minerals, and royal jelly isn’t.

It is this array of nutrition from quality producers such as Xtend Life, which can better your live and allow you to do, what you want to do!

A woman mowing her grass was killed when she mowed over an underground wasp nest. A gardener lost consciousness from multiple stings when weed pulling disturbed an underground bee nest. Another person suffered permanent scars from vicious hornet stings while cleaning up discarded lumber that hid a nest. Because they are most often seen flying through the air, most people don’t look down when they hear buzzing insects; but a large number of bee and wasp species build their nests underground or under debris lying on the ground.

Like the three real-life examples above taken from GardenWeb.com, Internet gardening forums are peppered with reports of bees, wasps and hornets attacking viciously from underground nests. Quite a few bee and wasp species build their nests underground and several species, taking advantage of the shelter provided by ground surface debris, build their nests under stray boards, loose slabs of rock or in wood piles. Underground bees have even been known to build nests in undisturbed compost piles.

There are several solitary species of bees and wasps, those that live singly, that nest underfoot. Mud daubers and potter wasps build their single-celled, ground-level nests in wet areas near ponds, poorly drained yards or near dripping outdoor faucets. Digger bees, digger wasps and cicada killer wasps dig single burrows several inches deep into dry or sandy ground. Mammoth 2-inch long cicada killers have a particular affinity for nesting in sand traps which can make them a problem on golf courses. Several solitary bee species, including cicada killers and halictid (sweat) bees nest in groups, locating their individual burrows close together. However, solitary bee and wasp species are relatively docile and not particularly defensive of their nests. They pose only a limited problem to humans, rarely stinging unless stepped on; but their habit of nesting near areas occupied by humans can create occasional problems for gardeners, landscape workers, golfers or barefoot children.

          ]]>

The real threat from underground bees, wasps and hornets (a type of wasp) comes from species that live socially in colonies that can number in the hundreds. Opportunistic insects, social bees and wasps often colonize abandoned animal burrows but will also tunnel into the ground, excavating multiple passages to house the colony and hold the queen’s eggs and developing larvae. Some ground bees such as bumble bees are fairly docile, attacking only when disturbed or threatened. Other ground-dwellers, particularly yellowjackets (a species of wasp) are highly aggressive and may attack without warning. Yellowjackets are so sensitive to noise and vibration that a running lawn mower can trigger an attack.

The sight of attacking ground bees or wasps is frightening. They shoot out of the narrow entrance to their underground nest like a stream of machine gun bullets, attacking and stinging immediately. Releasing pheromones that incite their nest mates to frenzied attack, they will try to swarm over their foe and can be relentless in their pursuit. While many humans can outrun bees and wasps, which have a 6- to 7-mile-per-hour flight speed; the speed of ground bee attacks takes most victims by surprise, causing panic that can hinder their escape to safety. Few people survive a ground bee or wasp attack without suffering multiple stings, particularly in late summer when colonies have reached maturity and stinging insects are at their most aggressive.

Ground bees and wasps pose a considerable threat to humans because they frequently build their nests in areas shared by humans – lawns, gardens, parks and golf courses –and because their nests usually go undetected until they are disturbed and the insects have launched their attack. The slight domes or narrow openings that mark the entrances to underground bee and wasp nests are often hidden by lawn or garden vegetation. The shallow depressions caused by excavated nests can easily be mistaken for natural low spots in a lawn. Nests built under ground debris remain invisible until the debris is removed. When underground bee and wasp nests are discovered it is usually by observation of heavy bee traffic in a specific area. Bees or wasps consistently seen hovering over a patch of lawn or garden generally indicate the entrance to an underground nest. Careful observation from a safe distance will reveal insects entering and exiting an opening in the ground. Heavy bee traffic to and from a piece of debris or woodpile and the sight of insects milling around the area are a good indication that wasps or hornets have built a nest under the debris and into the ground.

The internet offers a number of “home cures” for the elimination of ground bees and wasps. Most of these do-it-yourself pest control techniques are of questionable effectiveness, can be detrimental to landscape plantings, and carry a high element of risk to the home owner’s health and safety. Seldom does a home owner escape without multiple stings when trying to eliminate an underground bee or wasp nest. Until a nest is eliminated and dug up, there is no way to know how large the colony is or how many exit holes the nest contains. Ground nests always have multiple exits. Bees and wasps can easily attack from a secondary exit while a home owner is attempting to treat the primary nest entrance. The elimination of ground bees and wasps should be handled by licensed pest control experts who have the requisite knowledge, safety gear and pest control products and equipment to safely and effectively eliminate dangerous stinging pests.

Bee pollen supplements and granules are often mistakenly known as bee bread, when, in fact, bee bread is quite the different product. A product which on the whole contains an unparalleled amount of bacteria and detritus compared to a healthy bee pollen supplement.

The bee bread proper is actually fermented bee pollen (also known as perga). This fermented bee pollen is remarkably similar to a high quality bee pollen supplement, in fact, they both start out as exactly the same substance.

The difference between bee pollen supplements and fermented bee pollen is the way in which they are processed.

Simply put, they both start off as the pollen that bees collect and store in the pollen sacs. Yet, while bee pollen supplements use this pollen and sanitize it for our consumption, fermented bee pollen is fully processed within the hives by the worker bees.

Why Fermented Bee Pollen Is Not So Good-For-You!

All hive products are good for us, they benefit our lives in a remarkable amount of ways, but only once they have been sanitized and processed accordingly for our health. This is to remove impurities and other debris that we could do without.

Fermented bee pollen is made in a similar manner as honey is. That is, it is regurgitated many times between hosts of worker bees until it has reached the perfect qualities that they need from it. Once it is of the right qualities it is stored in honeycomb cells and fed to larvae bees.

          ]]>

The problem at hand with fermented bee pollen is that it is far too natural. Now, I know that’s an odd thing to say, but let me expand on this.

Being a pure and completely unprocessed product that isn’t sanitized leads fermented bee pollen to becoming a breeding ground for bacteria.

This is because this bee bread proper is likely to contain bee saliva and toxins, bee detritus, bee excrement and other foreign objects and contaminants that have been brought into the hive.

This is because this product is sold as natural as can be and is literally scraped from the hive wall into a jar. It isn’t even sanitized or processed, which allows all of those harmful bacteria to enter our bodies.

This is simply not what you want from a health supplement, is it?

Another way to look at this is that, even though we want the freshest, most organic, free range meats; you wouldn’t simply eat them without first processing them. As in, you would cook or dry the meats first to ensure they are safe for us. Because if you ate raw meat, you risk the chance of catching salmonella or other nastiness from the meat.

Why do the same with bee pollen?

All In All, Why Risk It!

Why risk catching nasty bacteria from unclean fermented bee pollen when you can get all of the same benefits from a very healthy bee pollen supplement.

A good bee pollen supplement will have been freeze-dried, and sanitized before being processed further. This kills the bacteria present, washes off any foreign objects and prevents the product from deteriorating.

Such a supplement that ensures you only get the healthiest, cleanest and most beneficial bee pollen is Xtend-Life’s Natural Energy with NZ Bee Pollen.
